These terms are written in plain language on purpose. By using this website or the API, you're agreeing to them.
DG Data API provides reference data derived from Title 49 of the US Code of Federal Regulations (the federal hazardous materials regulations), plus derived summaries such as lithium battery classification results. The underlying regulations are public domain; this service adds structure, search, and derived logic, with citations back to the source text.
This is not legal advice, transportation advice, or compliance certification. Responses describe what the regulations say as of the data issue date shown at /v1/health. They do not account for carrier-specific rules (which are often stricter than the federal regulations), state or local requirements, international regimes (IATA, IMDG, ADR), or the specifics of your situation.
You (or your users, if you build on this API) remain solely responsible for verifying any information before relying on it, and for complying with all applicable regulations and carrier requirements. If a shipment matters, verify against the current eCFR text and confirm with your carrier. The citations in every response exist to make that verification fast.
The service is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind — including accuracy, completeness, currency, or availability. Regulations change; parsing and derivation can contain errors despite testing. To the maximum extent permitted by law, DG Data API and its operator are not liable for any damages arising from use of the service, including rejected or delayed shipments, fines, penalties, or business losses. If you do not accept this, do not use the service.
During the free launch period, the API is open and rate-limited per IP. Don't circumvent rate limits, resell raw bulk access to the free tier, or use the service to build a product that misrepresents its outputs as certified compliance determinations. Bulk data licensing is available — just ask.
This is an independently operated service with no uptime guarantee during the launch period. Endpoints, limits, and these terms may change; material changes will be noted on the docs page changelog. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
